The History Of New Pathways
In 1993 it was recognized that there was
a need in
Merthyr Tydfil
for a helpline for women who had suffered rape and sexual abuse.
This led to the foundation of R.A.S.A.S.S (Rape and Sexual Abuse
Support Service).
In 1997, RASASS came close to closing. A revival was initiated by
Libby Jones, who became and still is the Manager of New Pathways.
The revival resulted in
the
renaming of the organization to New Pathways Rape and Sexual Abuse
Support Service, the appointment of new Trustees and the
formation of a new management team. The scope of the services
provided were extended and
made available to children and men as well as women.
The fight was on to gain funding to support a new and exciting
vision. Funding was obtained from Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council,
Wales Council for Voluntary Action and the National Lottery. New
Pathways is indebted to these funders, especially the National
Lottery who demonstrated its belief in our organisation by providing
6 years of financial support.
Today New Pathways
operates throughout the
United Kingdom
and is recognized as a flagship organization in terms of good
practice, high standards and the professional service it provides to
victims of rape, sexual abuse and trauma.
Plans are now being prepared to provide for further expansion
and the improvement of the scope of the services and facilities we
are able to provide to clients.
We feel able to look to the future confident that we shall be able
to provide an even better and more worthwhile service to our clients
throughout
Wales
and elsewhere.
