In addition to Willow
House and Laburnum House (Risca) New Pathways is proud of our involvement with a
third SARC
in
Wales
based in Carmarthen, covering West and Mid Wales.
The SARC at Elm Tree House is based within the grounds of West Wales
General Hospital providing immediate onsite access to emergency
medical care and health professionals. Elm Tree House is unique in
that it offers forensic medical examinations and follow up support
to children, young people and adults.
Within the centre at Elm Tree House there is an examination room which has been therapeutically designed for victims of
sexual violence regardless of age. The
gathering of forensic evidence can be upsetting, a trained crisis
worker is available to support a victim of sexual violence
throughout the process including forensic medical examination and
any subsequent police interviews. We aim to
demonstrate a non-threatening, non judgmental approach at all times,
which helps to empower the victim to take back control.
The SARC has been
designed, so that the individual is able to have a private shower
after the medical examination. The shower room has been designed to
promote privacy, comfort and dignity. Each client will be given a
Care Pack containing clothing and toiletries.
The centre is equipped with a state of the art interview facilities
which enables Dyfed - Powys Police to undertake the interviewing of
children, vulnerable adults and victims of sexual and domestic
violence.
